What is Bollinger Canyon Education Fund (BCEF)?

The Bollinger Canyon Education Fund is a non-profit entity dedicated to raising funds, through the collaboration of parents, educators and the community, to maintain and enhance the quality of education at Bollinger Canyon Elementary School. The BCEF board oversees the fundraising and works with the administration and teachers to determine how the money raised will be allocated.

BCEF has pledged $195,484 for the 2016/2017 School Year

What does BCEF pay for?

The money raised pays for programs and resources that are an important part of elementary education, but are not paid for by the district and/or State. For 2016/2017, the BCEF fund will commit $195,484 to pay salaries and support for the following programs:

Program

Description

 Classroom / teacher support

  • Our Para Professionals work directly with students in the classroom.  They provide one on one, or small group instruction.  Our teachers rely on Para Professional support to meet the needs of all students in the classroom.

 Art

  • Our art program provides direct instruction in the classroom.  Miss Tess makes art projects come alive with her creative and engaging approach! Miss Tess visits all classes K-4th grade five times each throughout the year. 5th grade receives Clay Art with Miss Bonnie for a 12 week session at the beginning of the school year.

 Library

  • Our librarian maintains and oversees the general operation of Bollinger’s literary center!  She provides all students with an enriching reading experience! Our librarian supports student reading in many different ways! Children are given the weekly opportunity to check out books, listen to selected read-aloud texts, and learn library research skills. Each class room, kindergarten through 5th grade, include our Special Day Classes, gets at least one half hour per week in the library. The district funds half or the librarian position so without the Ed Fund support, classes would only be able to visit the library once every two weeks.

 Rainbow Room

  • Primary Intervention program
  • Increases a sense of safety and cohesiveness among all students at school

  Drama/Music

  • Every child in 1st – 5th grade gets a change to perform on stage for family and friends!  Mr. Seaburg teaches our students how to deliver their scripted lines along with stage presence.   His plays are enchanting, fun, and appeal to all children. Bingo Schmingo, a music and rhythm program is available for our kindergarten students.

  Computer Lab

  • Our computer teacher meets weekly with all students, ½ hour K-2, and 45 minutes 3rd thru 5th grade.  She provides important instruction from the basics of keyboarding, to the intricate work of creating a power point presentation. She introduces the concept of computer programming during the Hour of Code.  She also coordinates the common core SBAC testing.
